Case Study:
University implements cost and carbon saving initiative – reduces energy consumption by nearly half with New Brunswick ULT freezers
In a case-study by the Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement (HEEPI) the University of Newcastle implemented a cost and carbon-saving initiative focusing on cold storage as the target area. 36 freezers which were more than 10-years old were replaced with mostly New Brunswick Scientific (NBS) -80°C U725-G freezers. Data showed that the old freezers cost up to £2000 a year to run whereas the NBS energy-efficient freezers cost only £527. Annual energy consumption was reduced from 9,349 kWh to 5,548 kWH.
New Brunswick freezers are the most environmentally-friendly, energy-efficient ultra-low temperature freezers on the market (as of this posting, August 2010.) Further, they are currently one of the only freezers that meet 2012 EC standards for reduced CO2 emissions.
